Cisco Transceiver compatibility with Mikrotik switches
Question:
One of our partners are
planning a new project for their end customer. They plan to use Cisco core
switches (C9500-48Y4C-A with SFP-10G-SR=) and MikroTik (CRS328-4C-20S-4S+RM
with S+85DLC03D) like an aggregation switch to which other ToR 1GbE
MikroTik switches will be connected. The end customer's application servers
will connect to the 1GbE MikroTik switches like the drawing below.
The partner is
requesting a confirmation that their planned topology of using MikroTik with
their Cisco Core switch will work fine and that there will not be any
incompatibility by combining two different products in their network.
Answer:
Mikrotik engineers checked and Cisco SFP-10G-SR= &
S+85DLC03D modules are compatible if using same (850nm) wavelength.
MikroTik devices and SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, and QSFP28
modules do not have any restrictions for other vendor equipment.
While MikroTik cannot ensure full compatibility with
modules from all manufacturers, but as long as the other vendor modules and
devices comply with transceiver multi-source agreement (MSA) they should be
compatible with MikroTik.
