How to Configure DNS on NetApp E-Series via SANtricity Manager

Purpose

This article describes how to configure DNS servers on NetApp E-Series storage enclosures using the web-based BMC interface. Proper DNS configuration ensures successful name resolution for services such as NTP, AutoSupport, SMTP, and Syslog.

Scope

Applies to NetApp E-Series storage enclosures managed through the BMC interface.

Prerequisites

  • OOB (Out-of-Band) network reachability to the storage enclosure’s BMC IP

  • Admin credentials

  • At least two reachable DNS servers (example:

    • Primary: 8.8.8.8

    • Secondary: 8.8.4.4

  • Confirm firewall/routing allows:

    • DNS (UDP/TCP 53)

    • HTTPS (TCP 443) for AutoSupport


Procedure: Configure DNS via BMC Web Interface

1. Log in to the BMC

Connect to the BMC using the OOB IP address:
https://<BMC-IP>

Authenticate using admin credentials.

2. Navigate to Controllers

Go to: Hardware → Controllers & Components

  

3. Configure DNS

  1. Select Controller A (repeat will apply to Controller B).

  2. Click Configure DNS Server

  3. Select: Manual DNS server addresses

  4. Enter:

    • Primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8

    • Secondary DNS server: 8.8.4.4

  5. Click Save


When prompted:

“Apply settings to the other controller?”

Select Yes.

The DNS settings will automatically sync to the second controller.


Validation: DNS & AutoSupport

After updating DNS, validate functionality via AutoSupport.

1. Navigate to Support Center

Go to: Support → Support Center

2. Configure AutoSupport

Select: AutoSupport → Delivery Method


4. Use the following settings:
  • Delivery Method: HTTPS

  • Add NetApp's destination URL


  1. Click Test Configuration

Successful validation will display a confirmation message.
