This article describes how to configure DNS servers on NetApp E-Series storage enclosures using the web-based BMC interface. Proper DNS configuration ensures successful name resolution for services such as NTP, AutoSupport, SMTP, and Syslog.
Applies to NetApp E-Series storage enclosures managed through the BMC interface.
OOB (Out-of-Band) network reachability to the storage enclosure’s BMC IP
Admin credentials
At least two reachable DNS servers (example:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4
Confirm firewall/routing allows:
DNS (UDP/TCP 53)
HTTPS (TCP 443) for AutoSupport
https://<BMC-IP>
Authenticate using admin credentials.
Go to: Hardware → Controllers & Components
Select Controller A (repeat will apply to Controller B).
Click Configure DNS Server
Select: Manual DNS server addresses
Enter:
Primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS server: 8.8.4.4
Click Save
When prompted:
“Apply settings to the other controller?”
Select Yes.
The DNS settings will automatically sync to the second controller.

- Click Test Configuration
Successful validation will display a confirmation message.
